KABUL: The spokesperson of the Afghan Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, has stated that they wish to maintain better relations with all countries, both within the region and outside, as a sovereign state.
While speaking to Afghan media, Zabihullah Mujahid mentioned that Afghanistan is no longer, and will never be, a tool in the hands of anyone.
He further stated that Afghanistan’s relationship with India is independent and sovereign, and it has no connection with Pakistan.
The spokesperson emphasized that Afghanistan’s relations with India have never been against Pakistan, and the Taliban aim to maintain better relations with all countries, both within and outside the region, as a sovereign state.
Zabihullah Mujahid also added that Afghanistan’s foreign policy is shaped based on national interests and is not influenced by any third country.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had said Afghanistan of acting as a proxy for India, claiming that the Taliban government in Kabul is “fighting a proxy war” on India’s behalf.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Asif sharply criticized the Afghan government, asserting that all Afghans should return to their own country and that Pakistan’s land and resources belong to its 250 million citizens.
He alleged that India, Afghanistan, and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are jointly “waging terrorism against Pakistan.” Asif expressed regret that individuals who once found refuge in Pakistan are now allegedly conspiring against it.
The minister further stated that Pakistan can no longer maintain relations with Afghanistan as it did in the past, noting that Islamabad’s diplomatic and institutional efforts to address security concerns have yielded little progress.
