Heavy rain, thunderstorm in next 48 hours, high alert issued

Weather today: Heavy rain, thunderstorm in Islamabad Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued high alert regarding heavy rain and thunderstorms in next 24 to 48 hours.

As per details, the new system will result in rains, thunderstorms, and heavy snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, the authorities warned residents of northern areas that snow likely to hit the mountainous region during evening and night hours.

Balochistan weather

Heavy rain and snowfall is expected on January 22 in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, Harnai, and Zhob.

KP/North weather

Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum valley, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, and Rawalako expected to get heavy rain and snowfall.

Punjab weather

Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are likely to hit major cities including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and numerous other districts during the afternoon.

Sindh weather

Sindh is expected to experience cold and cloudy weather in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and other areas.

Heavy snowfall blankets Noshki and Qalat

Noshki and Qalat have received the first snowfall of the winter season, which has brought cold weather to the area.  

In the area after the period of eight years, the snowfall has once again covered the mountains, which has created a scenic view as they were wrapped in a white blanket.

As per media reports, the lack of electricity has caused difficulties for local residents.

Meanwhile, Qalat city and its surrounding areas have been experiencing continuous snowfall since last night.

The snowfall has covered the entire region in white, significantly dropping temperatures and intensifying the winter chill.

Fog forces closure of M-2 and M-11

The National Highway Authority (NHA) confirmed the closure of motorways due to dense fog and poor visibility. According to the NHA, the M-2 motorway has been closed from Thokar Niaz Baig to Hiran Minar, while the M-11 motorway remains closed from Lahore to Sambrial.

Authorities advised motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and use alternative routes until visibility improves. Traffic police and motorway officials are monitoring the situation closely to ensure public safety.
