ISLAMABAD: Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is preparing for his second marriage, creating fresh chatter in political circles.
Media reports claim that Junaid will marry the granddaughter of senior PML-N leader Sheikh Rohail Asghar, bringing together two well-known political families.
Sources say the match has been approved by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and the entire Sharif family.
A private gathering was recently held, where both families including the bride-to-be’s father, Ali Rohail Asghar, met to discuss early arrangements.
The wedding date has not been announced yet, but it is expected either in the last week of December or sometime in January.
This will be Junaid’s second marriage. His first marriage to Ayesha Saif, daughter of Qatar-based businessman and former NAB chairman Saifur Rehman Khan, ended amicably in October 2023.
Their wedding took place in 2021 at The Lanesborough in London, at a time when Nawaz Sharif was living in exile.
Since coming back to Pakistan, Junaid has been helping his mother in political activities.
He studied at Durham, Cambridge, LSE, and UCL, and holds multiple degrees. He is also known for his love for polo and has played for various UK university teams.
The upcoming marriage follows the Sharif family’s long tradition of close-knit alliances and is expected to remain in the spotlight in the country’s political and social circles.
