A magnitude of 6.1 earthquake struck Türkiye’s Sındırgı , Balıkesir districts yesterday at 22:48, at a shallow depth of 6 km, according to Türkiye’s disaster agency AFAD.
Shaking was felt widely across the Marmara and Aegean regions, including Istanbul, İzmir and Bursa.
Officials reported no immediate deaths but damage to several buildings. Local authorities said some previously evacuated bur unsafe structures collapsed.
At least 22 people were injured, many due to panic, as assessments continued overnight.
Türkiye becomes epicentre of deadly earthquakes
This quake follows an earlier August shaking with magnitude of 6.1 in the same area that killed one person and injured dozens, per official tallies and contemporaneous reporting.
For context, Istanbul also experienced a moderate quake on early October 2, measured M5.0 by AFAD and M5.3 by Kandilli which triggered panic but caused no major damage.
