Western weather system enters Pakistan, rain expected today

Web Desk: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department a fresh spell of western winds is expected to enter Balochistan and bringing widespread rain and snowfall to several parts of the province.

The Met Office has predicted rain in 23 districts of Balochistan between December 29 and 31. Areas including Qalat, Ziarat, Chaman and Qila Abdullah are likely to receive rainfall during this period.

Rain is also expected in Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, and Musa Khel and southern and western districts such as Kech, Gwadar, Lasbela, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, and Kharan may also experience showers.

Under the influence of the western weather system snowfall is expected in the northern mountainous areas of the province which could lead to cold conditions and possible disruptions in travel.

The Meteorological Department has advised residents and travelers to take precautionary measures and especially in hilly regions as weather conditions may affect road connectivity.

The National Emergencies Operation Center of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have also issued a weather alert warning of possible rains, snowfall and landslides in various parts of the country from December 29 to January 2, 2026.

The NDMA has predicted rain in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan from today (Monday) until January 1. In various areas of Punjab, rain is expected from today until January 2.

Rainfall is likely in Lahore, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and other regions. In Karachi, the first winter rain is expected to occur on December 30.
