New criteria have been introduced for students who wish to pursue medical education abroad.
How many marks do students secure?
According to the revised guidelines, students must secure at least 60% marks in FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent qualification to qualify for overseas medical studies.
In addition, candidates will also be required to obtain a minimum of 50% marks in the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) conducted in Pakistan.
The new criteria aim to ensure that students seeking medical education abroad meet minimum academic standards before enrolling in foreign medical institutions.
Online registration process according to prescribed criteria
According to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, students planning to enrol in foreign medical institutions will also be required to complete an online registration process according to the prescribed criteria.
After completing this online registration, students will become eligible to appear in the National Registration Examination (NRE), which is required for medical practice in Pakistan.
These conditions have been made mandatory for obtaining NRE eligibility and temporary registration under the PMDC Act 2022.
Furthermore, it is now compulsory that the foreign regulatory authority of the respective country approves the medical degree obtained abroad.
The medical institution must also be recognised by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates ECFMG.
However, PMDC has advised students to verify the approval status of the institution on the ECFMG website before seeking admission abroad.
