WhatsApp has introduced a new feature aimed at improving the music-sharing experience in Status updates, allowing users to share longer clips of songs.
Under the latest WhatsApp update, users can now add up to 30 seconds of music to their Status. Previously, the maximum duration for a music clip in Status was limited to 15 seconds, and users did not have the option to adjust the duration according to their preference.
According to technology website WhatsApp Beta Info, the feature is being rolled out to both Android and iOS users. The new feature includes a duration-selection option within the music editor, allowing users to choose the length of the clip according to their needs.
Users who want to add their favourite song to a photo can now select a clip of up to 30 seconds and share it through their Status. Music can also be shared directly as a Status update without attaching a photo.
Last year, WhatsApp introduced several new options for Status, including music and music stickers, aimed at giving users more ways to make their photos and Status updates personal and engaging. According to Meta, users can also share songs directly to WhatsApp Status from Apple Music or Spotify.
Following the introduction of the 30-second music clip feature, WhatsApp has also started rolling out another enhancement to the Status viewing experience. Some iOS beta users can now watch Status videos at 2x speed by pressing and holding the right side of the screen while viewing a video.
However, the new features are being rolled out gradually, meaning some users may not yet see the option to add 30-second music clips to their Status. According to WhatsApp Beta Info, the feature is being made available to more users in phases.
WhatsApp continues to add new options to its Status feature, which has evolved beyond simply sharing short photos or videos. Users can now use music, stickers, photos and other creative tools to share their activities, interests and preferences with friends and family.
The most notable benefit of the latest update is that users are no longer limited to a 15-second section of their favourite song and can now select up to 30 seconds, allowing music-based Status updates to be shared in a more complete and engaging way.
