WhatsApp is about to launch a message schedule feature for Android users
WhatsApp is reportedly developing a feature that will allow users to schedule messages to be sent automatically at a selected date and time.
The feature has been spotted in a beta version of the messaging app for Android, according to a report by WABetaInfo, which tracks updates to WhatsApp.
It would allow users to compose messages in advance and arrange for them to be delivered without having to send them manually at the chosen time.
The feature is expected to support text messages, links, photos and videos in both individual and group chats, the report says.
According to the report, users will be able to write a message, select a date and time, and schedule it for automatic delivery.
The reported feature could be accessed by pressing and holding the send button after composing a message. A menu would then appear, allowing users to choose when the message should be sent.
The option would only be available to users who have access to the feature.
Users may be able to schedule messages from 10 minutes to two weeks in advance, the report says.
They would also be able to view scheduled messages through the chat information screen and delete them if they no longer wish to send them.
The feature has reportedly appeared for a limited number of beta testers on Android.
WhatsApp has not announced an official release date, and it remains unclear when the feature might become available to all Android and iPhone users.
If rolled out widely, message scheduling could help users prepare birthday greetings, work reminders and important announcements in advance.
It could also make it easier for people to send messages at a particular time without needing to be online or remember to send them manually.
