WhatsApp has launched a new feature in its most recent beta version for Android, 2.26.14.9, which enables users to view status updates from unsaved contacts.
The purpose of this update is to improve user experience by facilitating the identification of status updates shared by recent interactions.
This feature is currently being deployed and will become accessible to a larger number of users in the upcoming days.
The newly introduced feature aims to assist users in better connecting with individuals they have recently interacted with.
It allows status updates to be visible to phone numbers that have been part of recent chats or calls.
If a user notices a tilde (~) preceding a contact’s name and their phone number in the status interface, it indicates that the update originates from a recent interaction with an unsaved contact.
In spite of the new unsaved contacts feature, WhatsApp reassures users that their privacy settings regarding status updates remain intact.
Users continue to maintain complete control over who can view their status at any given time.
If a user receives a status update from an unsaved contact, it signifies that the contact has saved their number and has granted permission to share statuses with them.
