Hollywood is buzzing as a mysterious horror film has set a historic Oscar record.  

The vampire horror film Sinners made history by receiving the largest number of Oscar nominations for a single film, securing 16 nominations this year.

The film beat the previous record of 14 nominations and ranked above its nearest competitor, Leonardo DiCaprio’s thriller One Battle After Another, which secured 13 nominations. Sinners earned nominations for multiple of its cast members, including main star Michael B Jordan and his British co-stars Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo.

Other top contenders this year include Timothée Chalamet, who is aiming to win an Oscar after two previous nominations, and Irish actress Jessie Buckley, who is widely regarded as the front-runner for the best actress award for her role in Hamnet.

The 98th Academy Awards, the Oscars 2026, are scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The nominations are officially being announced on January 22, 2026, by actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman.

This year features the first new casting category since 2001. The nominees are Nina Gold for Hamnet, Jennifer Venditti for Marty Supreme, Cassandra Kulukundis for One Battle After Another, Gabriel Domingues for The Secret Agent, and Francine Maisler for Sinners.

KPop Demon Hunters has officially received two nominations for the 2026 Academy Awards.

The film is nominated in the following categories:

  • Best animated feature: Nominees include directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, and producer Michelle L.M. Wong.
  • Best original song: For the track “Golden,” performed by the fictional group HUNTR/X.
