In Pakistan, a total of 11 public holidays are expected during May 2026, including two separate stretches of consecutive holidays that could give citizens extended breaks.

According to details, the month will begin on May 1 with Labour Day, which is observed nationwide in both public and private institutions. This year, the holiday falls on a Friday, and with Saturday and Sunday following, citizens will enjoy a continuous three-day weekend.

The second major holiday period is expected between May 26 and May 29, although its final dates will depend on the official announcement of the moon sighting for Eid-ul-Azha.

Current forecasts suggest that Eid-ul-Azha is likely to fall on Tuesday, May 27, while Youm-e-Takbeer will be observed on Thursday, May 28 as a public holiday. An additional holiday on Friday, May 29 could further extend this break.

If citizens also take leave on Monday, May 26, they could benefit from up to six consecutive days off.

Officials have stated that the final date for Eid-ul-Azha 2026 will be announced by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after the moon sighting. During this period, government offices, educational institutions, and most private businesses are expected to remain closed.

Federal govt announces public for 2026

Earlier, the government of Pakistan announced public and optional holidays for the year 2026, the Cabinet Secretariat issued a notification in this regard.

The Cabinet Division released the full holiday schedule, which covers national days, Islamic occasions, and minority festivals.

According to the notification, the first public holiday of the year was fall on Kashmir Day on February 5.

Pakistan Day observed on March 23, Monday. Eidul Fitr holidays were on March 21, 22, and 23. Labour Day will be observed on May 1, followed by Youm-e-Takbeer on May 28.

Eid-ul Azha holidays will be from May 27 to 29. Public holidays will also be observed on 9th and 10th Muharram, falling on June 24 and 25.

Pakistan’s Independence Day will be marked on August 14, Friday. Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) will be observed on August 25, Tuesday.

Allama Iqbal Day will fall on November 9, Monday. December 25 will be a public holiday on Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday and Christmas.

December 26 will be a holiday only for the Christian community. Bank holidays will be observed on January 1 and July 1.
