Will there be a public holiday on October 1st? This is a question that is on everyone’s mind and has become a trending question on the social media.
It is indeed a public holiday, but only in Rahim Yar Khan district to mark the annual Urs of renowned Sufi poet and mystic Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Fareed (R.A).
The notification was issued by Deputy Commissioner Khurram Pervez,
As per the notification, all government offices, schools and local departments across Rahim Yar Khan will remain closed on October 1. However, the board exams will continue as scheduled.
The banks and the federal institutions in the city will also remain open.
The Urs of Khawaja Ghulam Fareed is marked every year with great devotion, attracting thousands of devotees from across Pakistan to Rahim Yar Khan, where commemorative ceremonies and spiritual gatherings take place.
Khawaja Ghulam Fareed was born in Chacharan Sharif in 1845 and passed away in the same town in 1901. However, he was laid to rest at his present shrine in Kot Mithan. He was closely linked with the Chishti-Nizami Silsila.
While Khawaja Fareed is most celebrated for his Seraiki poetry, his scholarship extended far beyond. He had mastery over Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi, and Braj Bhasha. Several of his compositions in Sindhi, Urdu, Persian, and Braj Bhasha also achieved widespread recognition.
