The Ministry will also launch a new Cultural Support Fund for musicians in the UAE. The fund will help artists cover the costs of music production, distribution and composition.
The fund will receive 10% of the money collected through the new music licensing fees.
Businesses will receive licences for one year and can renew them. The licence fee will depend on the type and size of the business.
The Emirates Music Rights Association and Music Nation will collect the fees and manage the related music rights.
The UAE has also strengthened its Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Law. The updated law allows authorities to conduct inspections and review financial and technical records. It also gives copyright holders and other stakeholders better ways to deal with violations.
The Ministry can change licence terms when required for regulatory reasons or in the public interest. Businesses holding the licences must comply with any such changes immediately.
