T20 World Cup 2026: has ICC revised semi final schedule?

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revised the semi final schedule for the 2026 T20 World Cup on Tuesday after the Super Eight stage ended.

The updated plan was shared with all stakeholders through an official statement.

The ICC explained the venue arrangements for the semi finals under different qualification scenarios.

Under the new plan, the first semi final may be played in Colombo or Kolkata. The venue will depend on which teams will be able to qualify.

If Pakistan reach the semi finals, they will play the first semi final on March 4 in Colombo.

If Pakistan do not qualify but Sri Lanka reaches the semi finals and are not drawn against India, then Sri Lanka will play the first semi final in Colombo.

The ICC said that if neither Pakistan nor Sri Lanka qualify, the first semi final will take place in Kolkata. The second semi final will be held in Mumbai.

The council also clarified India’s position. If India qualify for the semi finals, they will play in Mumbai.

However, if India is drawn against Pakistan, the match will be moved to Colombo.

The revised schedule is meant to manage logistical and competitive factors before the knockout stage begins.

T20 World Cup 2026: How can Pak reach semi finals?

The ICC T20 World Cup Super 8 stage saw Pakistan and New Zealand’s crucial Group 2 clash washed out due to persistent heavy rain on Saturday. This has added further uncertainty to the group standings.

As per tournament rules, both teams were awarded one point each.

If Pakistan wins both next matches, they will finish with five points. It will increase their chances of reaching the semi finals.

But in the case of Pakistan winning one match and losing the other, the teams fate might depend on other teams’ results and net run rate.

Losing both remaining matches would leave Pakistan with just one point. It will result in elimination from the tournament.
