Metro Bus Service plying between the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad has been partially closed due to the Al-Quds rally on Friday.
The Metro station in Rawalpindi is only operational through the first nine stations from Sadr till Khtam-e-Nubawat stop while the remaining routes will remain closed. Metro bus service from Faizabad till Pak Secretariat is completely closed.
Strict security arrangements have been put in place in Islamabad for Friday prayers and rallies linked to Quds Day, while traffic police have closed several key roads in the federal capital.
More than 3,500 personnel of Islamabad Police have been deployed to ensure security during Friday congregations and Quds Day processions.
According to Deputy Inspector General Operations Muhammad Jawad Tariq, strict security arrangements have been made around mosques and imambargahs, including Faisal Mosque. Checking at all entry and exit points of the city has been intensified, while special pickets have been set up.
The DIG said effective police patrolling continues across the city. Protection of citizens’ lives and property remains the top priority of Islamabad Police.
Alternate traffic plan
Authorities have also issued a special traffic plan for Friday, March 13, 2026.
According to Islamabad Traffic Police, only Margalla Road will remain open for entry into the Red Zone, while all other access routes will stay closed. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and use alternate routes.
Several major roads have also been closed. All entry and exit points of Iran Avenue remain shut. The route from Chand Tara Flyover to Serena Chowk via Srinagar Highway is closed, while Suhrawardy Road in Aabpara is completely blocked.
Other closures include the road from Recep Tayyip Erdogan Flyover to Jinnah Avenue, as well as routes around Kulsum Plaza Chowk, Seventh Avenue Bridge, Fazl-ul-Haq Road and Geo Chowk.
Authorities said the road from Haji Camp Chowk to Islamabad Chowk is completely closed. Portions of IJP Road and service roads from NESCOM towards I-10 are also shut.
