Young gymnasts set to shine at KP Junior Open Championship

Excellent opportunity for youngsters to showcase their talent at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Junior Open Gymnastics Championship, scheduled to be held on January 24 at the Hayatabad Sports Complex, Peshawar.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Junior Open Gymnastics Championship is being organised under the patronage of the Provincial Gymnastics Association and the auspices of the Peshawar Division Gymnastics Association.

Highlighting the salient features of the championship, an official stated that teams from various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will participate in the event.

Separate competitions have been arranged for male and female athletes, while junior players will compete under the open category to showcase their skills.

Gymnastics coach and event organiser, Secretary Muhammad Gul, said that the primary objective of organising the championship is to raise the standard of gymnastics in the province and provide a competitive platform for emerging talent.

He added that all arrangements for the successful conduct of the event have been completed.

The Secretary General further confirmed that comprehensive preparations have been finalised to ensure the smooth running of the championship and to provide athletes with a professional and conducive sporting environment.

It is worth mentioning that young gymnasts in Pakistan have access to multiple development pathways, including government sports initiatives such as the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) and the HEC Talent Hunt programme, university-level championships, national federations like the Pakistan Gymnastics Federation, and local private academies.

These avenues support athletes from grassroots training through professional coaching and scholarship opportunities, leading to elite national and international representation. Additionally, platforms such as the Special Olympics provide inclusive opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
