The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (CRHC) will meet today (Sunday) in Karachi to sight the Zil Hajj moon, the private media channel reported.
Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the meeting at Habib Bank Plaza. The committee will review testimonies and evidence received from different parts of the country before announcing the final decision about the moon sighting.
Zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also hold their meetings at their respective headquarters.
If the Zil Hajj moon is sighted today, Eidul Azha will be celebrated on May 27. If the moon is not sighted, the festival will fall on May 28.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted that Eid-ul-Adha 2026 is likely to fall on May 27, based on astronomical calculations.
SUPARCO said the moon for Zil Hajj 1447 AH will be born at 1:01 am on May 17. By sunset, the moon will be about 18 hours and 30 minutes old, which may make it visible to the naked eye.
The space agency added that in coastal areas, the time between sunset and moonset on May 17 will be around 60 minutes, which increases the chances of sighting the crescent.
SUPARCO noted that a moon age of around 20 hours is usually considered suitable for clear visibility.
Based on these calculations, Pakistan is expected to complete 29 days of Zil Qadah, making Eidul Azha likely on May 27. However, the final announcement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after its official meeting.
