An important meeting of the Central Ruet e Hilal Committee will be held today to see the moon of Zil Hajj in Pakistan. In the meeting, the start of the new lunar month will be announced after reviewing the testimonies received from across the country and the weather conditions.
After this meeting, the official announcement of the final date of Eid ul Azha is also expected.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the meeting of the Central Ruet e Hilal Committee will be held at the office of the Meteorological Department in Karachi. While meetings of the zonal and district Ruet e Hilal Committees will also be held in different cities of the country.
Testimonies regarding the sighting or non-sighting of the moon will be collected in these meetings, on the basis of which a final decision will be taken.
If the moon of Zil Hajj s sighted today evening, then Eid ul Azha 2026 will be celebrated across the country on Wednesday, May 27.
However, if the moon is not sighted, the thirty days of Zul Qa’dah will be completed, and Eid ul Azha will be celebrated on Thursday, May 28.
Eid ul Azha 2026 in Saudi Arabia
The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has appealed to the public to sight the moon of Dhul Hijjah.
Saudi authorities have said that anyone who sees the moon on the evening of 30 Zil Qaddah should record their testimony in the nearest court or relevant institution so that the new Islamic month can be announced.
According to astronomers, the chances of seeing the moon may vary in different countries due to weather and geographical conditions. This is why sometimes Eid is celebrated on different days in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Eid ul Azha 2026 preparations, holidays
Ahead of Eid ul Azha 2026 holidays, the Punjab Local Government Department has issued special instructions to make sure of cleanliness, security, and proper arrangements across the province during the festive days.
According to the department, temporary cattle sale points across Punjab will be fully active by Sunday. In addition to this, strict action will be taken against the sale of sacrificial animals on roadsides.
