During her message, she also pointed to Pakistan’s serious challenges. Pakistan has around 19 million child brides. It ranks sixth globally in this category. Many young girls become pregnant before turning 18, which puts both mothers and babies at risk. These concerns made her Children Day message even more important.
Saba Qamar asked people to “turn Pakistan blue” to show unity for World Children’s Day. The color blue represents support for child rights. She said that every child should be heard and respected. Her call for solidarity gained strong support online.
UNICEF appointed Fawad Khan as its first National Ambassador for Child Rights in Pakistan in 2024. The announcement was made on the International Day of the Girl Child. The day focuses on the rights of girls and the challenges they face worldwide.
Saba Qamar expressed pride in her role. She said she aims to promote UNICEF’s mission of ensuring every right for every child. She promised to work for the children of Pakistan and help them dream without fear or barriers.
As a National Ambassador, she plans to use her platform to raise awareness about major issues. These include child marriage, mental health, education gaps, and gender inequality. She also highlighted climate change, poverty, and violence as threats to children’s development.
