The federal government has announced plans to construct two new underpasses in Islamabad to improve traffic flow at key intersections in the capital.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, where ongoing and upcoming development projects in Islamabad were reviewed. The meeting also discussed proposals to increase the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) revenue and received a briefing on the city’s mega projects and future development plans.
Speaking at the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi said construction of the new underpasses at Kashmir Chowk and near Faisal Mosque will begin in September.
The interior minister also directed authorities to expedite efforts to transform Capital Emergency Services into a fully functional institution. He stressed the need to develop a sustainable revenue model to ensure the financial self-reliance of the CDA.
Naqvi emphasised that strengthening the institution’s financial position is just as important as executing development projects, directing officials to ensure early progress on practical revenue-generating initiatives.
He further instructed authorities to complete work on the Expressway Service Road project within the prescribed timeline.
On the other hand, the Ministry of National Health Services is considering introducing a new Islamabad Health Regulatory Authority (IHRA) Ordinance to improve healthcare regulation in the federal capital.
According to the reports, the ministry has started working on the proposed ordinance. It is also reviewing the Islamabad Health Regulatory Authority Act and plans to make changes to the existing law.
The purpose of the proposed amendment is to update the legal framework of the IHRA and improve the authority’s governance and overall working system.
The move comes amid reported differences between the Ministry of Health and the IHRA Board over the appointment of the authority’s chief executive officer (CEO).
According to the report, the ministry extended Dr Zaeem’s temporary appointment as acting CEO for a third time on July 27.
