Scotland announces scholarships for Pakistani women

The Scottish Government has announced the Scotland Pakistan Scholarships for Young Women and Girls.

The programme will support Pakistani women who want to study undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at HEC-recognised universities in Pakistan.

The purpose of the scholarship is to help more women continue higher education. Women with disabilities, students from rural areas and applicants from minority communities are especially encouraged to apply.

What will the scholarship offer?

The scholarship is available for four-year bachelor’s degrees and master’s or MPhil programmes of up to two years in selected subjects.

The British Council will manage the scholarship programme in Pakistan and work with selected students and universities.

The scholarship covers tuition fees and university hostel costs where applicable. Students who are living in university hostels can also receive travel support for two trips between their home and university each year.

Master’s students will also receive research funding to help pay for laboratory access, equipment and other study-related needs.

Eligibility criteria

The scholarship is available in six subject areas: Education, Sustainable Energy, Food Security and Agriculture, Health Sciences, STEM, and Climate.

Applicants must be Pakistani citizens living in Pakistan. They must have a confirmed admission offer from an HEC-recognised university.

They must also be enrolled in an eligible four-year bachelor’s degree or a two-year master’s programme.

The Scottish Government said the programme aims to increase educational opportunities for Pakistani women and encourage applications from students who face geographical, social or other barriers to higher education.
