Lahore traffic police have launched a major crackdown against the top 100 vehicles with unpaid e-challan fines.
Chief Traffic Officer Lahore, Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, has directed the e-challan squads to locate the vehicles listed among the biggest defaulters and to coordinate with the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) to locate and seize the vehicles immediately.
The campaign has already resulted in the arrest of a pickup driver who was among the top 10 defaulters.
The officials of the Lahore traffic police said that the accused driver had committed 80 traffic violations and had not paid a fine of more than Rs410,000.
Authorities said the driver allegedly installed a fake number plate after learning about the outstanding fines.
The officials added that the vehicle continued to be involved in traffic violations, leading to a further Rs21,000 in e-challans being issued against the fake registration number.
Police arrested the driver and seized the vehicle before registering a case at Nawan Kot police station. He will also be required to pay the outstanding fines, according to officials.
Traffic police said teams would continue working with Safe City authorities to identify and locate other vehicles on the top-100 defaulter list.
Authorities have also restricted 14 government services for people who fail to clear their e-challan fines. These include driving licence services, character certificates and various verification facilities.
Officials said the measures are aimed at encouraging motorists to clear outstanding fines and comply with traffic regulations.
