Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has said that he finds it amusing when people refer to Karachi as Paris. He expressed disappointment over the city’s deteriorating infrastructure.
Afridi said that leaving Karachi and moving to Islamabad has been a difficult decision for him, while speaking on former Test cricketer Fawad Alam’s podcast. He said Karachi was a city of wonderful people and that he had spent good times there. He added that comparatively the climate and infrastructure of Islamabad is better, and that it was easier for him to travel to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other cities.
Further, Afridi recalled visiting the Korangi area and feeling disappointed by the condition of the roads. He said that after being away from Karachi for a long time, he had expected to see improvements instead. He said it made him laugh when he heard people describing Karachi as Paris.
The former captain also pointed out that University Road had remained unfinished for as long as he could remember. He acknowledged that good work had been done on Shahrah-e-Bhutto, and appreciated.
