The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), on Wednesday, forecast more rain in several parts of Pakistan from August 12 to 15. Heavy rain can also increase the risk of landslides in hilly areas.
Will it rain on Independence Day, August 14?
According to the PMD, monsoon winds are entering the upper parts of the country. A western weather system is also affecting these areas.
Due to these systems, rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected from the night of August 12 until August 15.
This means it might also rain on August 14, 2026, when people are celebrating Independence Day.
Will it rain in Northern areas of Pakistan?
Rain is expected in several parts of Azad Kashmir. These include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur.
Several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan may also get rain. These include Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar.
Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also likely to receive rain. Areas including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Galiyat, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Haripur, Kurram and Khyber may see thunderstorms and strong winds.

What is the rain forecast for Punjab?
Parts of northeast Punjab are also expected to receive rain with thunderstorms and strong winds.
The areas include Murree, Sialkot, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib. Some places may also receive heavy rain.
Islamabad weather on August 14
Islamabad and Rawalpindi are likely to receive rain from the evening or night of August 13 until August 15. Some areas of the Potohar region may also receive heavy rain.
Other parts of Punjab, including Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Layyah, Bhakkar, Noorpur Thal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan and Bahawalnagar can also receive rain with strong winds and thunderstorms. Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan are also likely to see similar weather.
What is the rain forecast for Sindh?
Parts of southeastern and coastal Sindh may remain partly cloudy on August 12 and 13.
Tharparkar, Umerkot and Sanghar may receive rain with strong winds and thunderstorms. Most other parts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and humid over the next few days.
Risk of flooding and landslides
The PMD has warned that heavy rain may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore.
There is also a risk of landslides in hilly areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These include Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Battagram, Mansehra, Haripur and Abbottabad. There is risk in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir as well.
