Senior Pakistani actor Shahood Alvi has issued a clarification following intense criticism over his recent remarks about women. Alvi had previously described housewives as smelly during a morning show appearance. This sparked widespread backlash on social media.

The actor on his Instagram said his words had been taken out of context and did not reflect his actual intent. He said he wanted to clarify the real meaning behind his comments.

Alvi explained that during the show, a woman had called in asking why her husband remained engrossed in his phone whenever he came home. He said he was attempting to advise women that if they did not take care of themselves, men would naturally be drawn elsewhere.

Further, Alvi added on that people now perceiving him as disrespectful towards women, which he insisted were false claims about him. He said he wanted women to be confident and empowered, adding that the women in his own household were provided with every comfort.

However, despite clarification on social media, users still continued with the backlash.
