Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has cleared the air after the Inspector General (IG) Islamabad and Chief Commissioner Islamabad were seen using a buggy during the August 14 parade in the capital, drawing criticism on social media.
Explaining the situation, the minister clarified that the officials were not at fault, saying, “I want to clarify that it was neither the IG’s nor the Chief Commissioner Islamabad’s fault.”
“The Chief Guest and I were delayed due to the President’s meeting with the Prime Minister. The crowd had been waiting since 5:00 pm, and at around 6:00 pm, when it became clear that we would be late, we instructed the officers to start the program because we did not want the public to wait any longer”, he said.
He also added that, “I can say on record that both officers initially resisted starting the program in our absence, but we specifically instructed them to proceed for the convenience of the public.”
I know what happened was not appropriate, but I want to clarify that it was neither the IG’s nor the Chief Commissioner’s Islamabad fault.
