A fake notification circulating on social media has claimed that summer vacations in educational institutions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have been extended until August 31, 2026, due to heavy rains. According to the viral document, schools and other educational institutions would reopen on September 1, 2026, after the extended summer break.
The notification carries the name of the Education Department and features official-looking formatting and other details, leading to confusion among students, parents and education administrators. However, the Elementary and Secondary Education Department has rejected the notification as fake, clarifying that the document circulating on social media is not genuine.
The department has urged the public not to rely on or share the fake notification and advised citizens to follow only official announcements regarding the summer vacation schedule.
On the other hand, there is growing speculation about a possible extension of summer vacations in schools across Punjab, with questions being raised over whether educational institutions will remain closed until August 31. According to details, summer vacations in government and private schools across Punjab are nearing their scheduled end, and preparations are underway for students to return to classes.
However, ongoing monsoon rains in various parts of the province have sparked speculation about a possible extension of the holidays. Questions are being raised about whether schools will reopen on September 1, 2026, or whether classes will resume from August 24 as currently scheduled. Under the existing schedule, summer vacations in Punjab are set to end on August 23, 2026, with schools scheduled to reopen on August 24.
Sources said that, at present, no proposal or report regarding an extension of the summer vacations beyond August 23 is under consideration. The Punjab government has also not issued any official notification announcing an extension of the holidays.
