Public and private schools across Punjab are expected to reopen on August 24, 2026.
The Punjab government and relevant education authorities have not officially announced the timings that schools will follow after the summer holidays. However, reports have suggested a possible schedule for schools.
Expected school timings
According to the reported schedule:
- Single-shift schools: 8:00 am to 1:30 pm from Monday to Thursday
- Friday timing: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
- Double-shift schools, morning shift: 8:00 am to 12:30 pm
- Double-shift schools, second shift: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
However, these timings have not yet been officially confirmed and may change if the authorities issue a new notification before schools reopen. Parents and students are therefore advised to follow announcements from their schools and the School Education Department.
Pre-Smog Action Plan 2026
Moreover, Punjab government has directed all public schools to take precautionary steps under the Pre-Smog Action Plan 2026.
The School Education Department issued instructions in line with the provincial environmental authorities action plan for July to September 2026. The measures are intended to reduce the exposure of students to unhealthy air as Punjab approaches the smog season.
Schools have been advised to limit activities outside school buildings when pollution levels are high. Administrations have also been instructed to check the Air Quality Index (AQI) before allowing students to participate in outdoor exercise, physical training or other activities. Schools should also organise sports and physical activities in a way that reduces the exposure of the students to polluted outdoor air.
