A notification circulating on social media claiming that four new districts have been created in Punjab is fake, officials have confirmed.
The document, allegedly issued by the Punjab Revenue Department, claims that Pattoki, Depalpur, Hasilpur and Haroonabad have been granted district status.
According to the viral document, the creation of the four districts would increase the total number of districts in Punjab from 41 to 45, with the decision taking immediate effect.

However, officials have rejected the claim and clarified that no new districts have been created in Punjab.
A spokesperson for the Board of Revenue Punjab confirmed that the circulating document is fabricated. The spokesperson said neither the Punjab government nor the Board of Revenue had issued any notification regarding the creation of new districts.
The fake notification also names Zaheer Abbas Malik as Punjab’s chief secretary. However, Zahid Akhtar Zaman is the current chief secretary of Punjab and has held the position since January 2023.
Punjab Information Minister Uzma Zahid Bukhari also dismissed the notification circulating on social media as fake.
Therefore, the claim that Pattoki, Depalpur, Hasilpur and Haroonabad have been declared new districts is false, and the notification being circulated online is fabricated.
