Pakistanis can now save for Hajj in easy installments through an interest-free Hajj Savings Plan.
The proposed Shariah-compliant scheme will allow Pakistanis to make regular monthly deposits through digital channels, choose their preferred savings period, transfer funds to family members and withdraw money without deductions.
However, the government has yet to announce the eligibility criteria, savings terms or launch date.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved a joint proposal submitted by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and other relevant stakeholders to introduce the initiative.
The scheme aims to facilitate systematic financial planning, mitigate the impact of rising inflation and make Hajj preparations easier for citizens.
Under the government’s Hajj scheme, the cost of the 40-day package is Rs1.2 million, while the shorter 20- to 25-day package costs Rs1.3 million.
Approximately 180,000 Pakistani pilgrims performed Hajj in 2026, fully utilising the country’s allocated quota.
Hajj 2027 is expected to take place in the second week of May.
