The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms across the upper and central parts of the country tonight and tomorrow, Sunday. According to the weather advisory, rainfall is expected to continue in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain cautious as heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms could disrupt normal activities and cause localised flooding. Heavy rain is expected in Islamabad and Rawalpindi tonight, raising the risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas. There is also a risk of flooding in the rivers and streams of the twin cities.
In Punjab, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Mangla, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Okara. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in parts of Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Chitral, Battagram, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Hangu, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a landslide warning for mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, and Kashmir. Heavy rain is expected in some areas of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan as well. According to the department, intermittent rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms are likely to continue in Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday, August 23.
Heavy rain may occur at isolated places. Rain is also expected in several parts of upper Punjab, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sialkot, tomorrow. In the event of heavy rainfall, the risk of urban flooding will persist in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, most plains of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid. However, rain and thunderstorms may occur in some areas of Balochistan during the evening or at night. The Meteorological Department has advised citizens, travellers, and people planning to visit mountainous areas to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary travel in view of the expected weather conditions.
