The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to lift restrictions on the use of government vehicles and petrol. Normal use of official vehicles will resume from September 1, 2026.
The decision ends the fuel saving measures introduced earlier this year. These restrictions were imposed after fuel costs increased amid the Iran and US conflict.
KMC Financial Advisor Gulzar Ali has issued an official notification confirming the withdrawal of the restrictions.
According to the notification, KMC has reversed its earlier decision to keep 60 per cent of its government vehicles off the road. Government vehicles that were grounded under the previous policy will be allowed to operate again.
The restriction also affected officials up to Grade 17.
The decision was taken in March 2026 when rising fuel prices placed additional pressure on government expenses. The city administration introduced fuel-saving measures to reduce unnecessary expenditure.
However, KMC has now decided to withdraw those measures.
The latest notification allows official vehicles to return to normal operations. It also restores the regular use of petrol for government vehicles from the beginning of September.
The move is expected to make transportation easier for KMC officials and departments that rely on government vehicles for their daily work.
On the other hand, previously, a decision was taken to shift the headquarters of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) from Karachi to Islamabad.
According to the report, both major aviation organisations currently have their headquarters at Karachi Airport. Their central offices will now be transferred to Islamabad Airport, according to reports.
