Mayor of Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced a proposal to introduce pension cards for retired employees of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) from the next financial year, according to reports on Monday.
While speaking at a press conference at the KMC Head Office, the mayor said that the proposed pension cards would help organise the payment of pensions. These pension cards would also help in organising the outstanding dues for the retired employees.
KMC health card
According to him, the civic body has provided health insurance to around 11,500 employees under its worker friendly policy.
This will make KMC the first local government institution in Pakistan to introduce a medical insurance scheme for its staff.
Under the policy, employees will be able to receive free medical treatment worth between Rs150,000 and Rs600,000 at more than 200 hospitals across the country.
Murtaza Wahab further said that the new system would make sure that equal healthcare is given to all employees without the need for recommendations.
The mayor also announced that KMC will introduce a fully digital payment system from the next financial year.
Salaries and other payments will be transferred directly to employees’ bank accounts through e transfers to improve transparency. This step will also help in reducing delays.
In addition to this, KMC has set up a special vigilance squad that will be equipped with electric bikes to help protect public property and streetlights while reducing fuel costs.
The mayor also highlighted the restoration of several historic buildings in Karachi. These include the Hoti Market, Empress Market, Khaliq Dina Hall and Denso Hall Library.
The Mayor further said that the projects have helped preserve the city’s heritage.
