The Power Division has taken steps to speed up the approval of pending net-metering applications across Pakistan.
The move follows recent directions issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). The Power Division has instructed all power distribution companies (DISCOs) and the Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) to take immediate action.
The decision mainly covers consumers whose net-metering cases were already in process before February 9, 2026.
Which net-metering applications will be considered?
The regulatory directions cover certain applications that remained pending despite consumers completing the required steps.
These cases may include consumers who had already paid their demand notices, received net-metering licences, completed physical meter replacement, or received meter connection orders before the February 9 cut off date.
However, a major requirement is that the payment of the demand notice must be verified.
Consumers will need to show that they made the required payment before February 9, 2026.
The Power Division has directed DISCOs and PITC to carefully review pending applications. The verification process will focus particularly on confirming when consumers paid their demand notices.
Consumers who completed all the required steps within the given period should not face unnecessary delays or procedural problems.
PITC asked to update systems
PITC has also been instructed to review its billing systems and software.
The company must ensure that eligible net-metering connections, where all required formalities were completed before the cut off date, are properly entered and updated in the system.
This process is considered important because eligible consumers could otherwise remain stuck despite completing the necessary requirements.
The Power Division said the verification process is not intended to create additional difficulties for consumers. Its purpose is to ensure that NEPRA’s directions are implemented fairly.
The process will also help authorities separate genuine pending applications from cases that do not meet the required conditions.
The Power Division has said it will closely monitor the implementation of these instructions across all electricity distribution companies.
