Pakistani women’s fast bowler Aiman Anwar has announced her immediate retirement from international cricket, bringing her international career to an end. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Aiman represented Pakistan in eight ODIs and 37 T20 matches.
Following her retirement, Aiman has taken on a new role as a cricket referee. She has begun her refereeing career in the ongoing National Women’s Under-19 Tournament in Karachi. Aiman served as a fast bowler for the Pakistan women’s national team during her international career.
Aiman Anwar earned her 37th T20I cap for Pakistan against England in Southampton in 2016 before making her ODI debut against Bangladesh in Colombo in 2017 as Pakistan’s 76th ODI cap. Across her 45-match international career, the fast bowler claimed four wickets in ODIs and 29 in T20Is.
Aiman was also part of Pakistan’s squads for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cups in 2018, 2020 and 2022, as well as the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 in New Zealand. Following her playing career, Aiman has worked as a broadcaster and has now begun a new chapter as a match referee. On Monday, she made her refereeing debut in the ongoing National Women’s U19 Tournament after completing her induction course for the role in January this year.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s women’s cricket team has departed for Dubai to take part in the upcoming Women’s T20 Asia Cup. The tournament will be played in Dubai from August 28 to September 13, with Pakistan among the teams competing for the regional title. The national side will begin its campaign on September 1 with a match against Thailand. The opening game will give Pakistan an opportunity to make a strong start to the tournament before facing tougher opposition later.
