Street crime continues to be a concern in Karachi as armed men on motorcycles allegedly robbed a young man in the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area. The incident took place in Block 13-D, where motorcycle-riding suspects reportedly snatched a motorcycle and other valuables from a Hafiz-e-Quran and a student of Karachi University.
CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced. The footage shows the suspects arriving on a motorcycle and allegedly robbing the young man outside his home before fleeing the scene.
The victim, Muhammad Siddique, said he was about to enter his cousin’s house when motorcycle-riding suspects suddenly approached him. At gunpoint, the suspects allegedly snatched his motorcycle, an expensive watch, and wallet before fleeing the scene. Siddique has registered a case at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
He said CCTV footage of the robbery is available and clearly shows the suspects’ faces, which could help police identify and locate them. He urged the authorities to arrest the suspects as soon as possible and take legal action against them.
Street crime in Karachi has risen sharply in recent months, raising serious concerns about the safety of citizens and their belongings. The worsening situation can largely be linked to the country’s prolonged economic difficulties, including rising inflation and unemployment, as well as the easy availability of firearms. The situation has become even more alarming as criminals are often reported to have access to sophisticated weapons, in some cases giving them an advantage over law-enforcement personnel.
