A woman at a private hospital in Karachi’s Nazimabad area has told police that she was not pregnant. She also admitted that she had shown a fake ultrasound report.
The statement has cleared up a dispute over claims that a newborn baby had gone missing from the hospital.
Woman’s statement to police
According to police, the woman got married in 2024 and later suffered a miscarriage. She then came under pressure and started telling people that she was pregnant.
Police said the woman visited different hospitals and had ultrasound scans. However, she did not see a doctor to discuss the results.
The issue came to light when the woman’s family claimed that a baby had disappeared because of hospital staff’s negligence. Hospital officials denied the claim and said the woman had never been pregnant.
A medical examination and medico-legal report also found no signs that the woman had been pregnant.
Fake ultrasound report
Investigators found that hospital staff had relied on an ultrasound report shown on the woman’s phone. Police later found that the report was not genuine.
Police also raised questions about the hospital’s actions. They said staff took the woman to the operating theatre without doing proper tests or a full medical check.
The doctor involved told police that no baby was found during the operation. The doctor said the woman had come to the hospital as an emergency case.
She also claimed that she was already receiving regular treatment at another hospital.
Investigation continues
Police are now looking into why the woman was taken for an operation if she was not pregnant. They are also checking why proper tests were not done before the procedure.
Police have recorded statements from the doctor and hospital staff. They have also collected details of the woman’s medical tests.
CCTV footage, medical records and other documents are being reviewed as part of the investigation.
The woman’s husband has also filed a complaint against the hospital.
Police said legal action could be taken against the hospital, doctor and other responsible people if negligence is proved.
