Tom Cruise is officially back in the driver’s seat on the big screen as the magic of the 1990s returns to the cinemas with the return of the iconic NASCAR racing film, Days of Thunder, with a well-deserved sequel.

Cruise is back playing Cole Trickle in the upcoming Paramount Pictures project, which will feature Anne Hathaway.

Hathaway will play a team owner/engineer, which indicates that her character will be connected but not a typical love interest in the high-speed racing realm.

In an Instagram post, the two Hollywood stars announced the project in front of a NASCAR race car and had a racetrack behind them.

It has already stirred up some excitement amongst fans of the original movie.

Cruise is not only coming back as the star of the film, but also as a producer with his longtime partner Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.

The sequel will be made with the audience of IMAX in mind.

Filmmaker Jonathan Levine, who directed 50/50 and The Night Before, will lead the project and screenwriter Will Staples is to write the script.

Cruise’s first time sharing the screen with Kidman was in the original 1990 movie Days of Thunder.

Their partnership was a professional one; however, Cruise and Kidman were married only six months after the movie’s release.

Whether Kidman will be back for the sequel, or if the new storyline will feature Cruise’s character and a new set of NASCAR personalities, is not known.

The highly anticipated sequel to Days of Thunder is set to open in theatres on June 2, 2028, potentially elevating the NASCAR racing experience even further.
