The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have introduced a new initiative, “Be Our Eyes”, to encourage motorists and passengers to report traffic violations on highways and motorways.
The campaign seeks to make citizens part of road safety efforts by helping authorities spot violations, improve enforcement and discourage behaviour that could endanger passengers and other road users.
Under the initiative, commuters can report violations involving public transport vehicles, including overloading, charging passengers more than the approved fare, reckless driving and other breaches of traffic rules.
QR codes allow passengers to file complaints
As part of the campaign, Motorway Police stickers carrying QR codes have been placed on public transport vehicles.
Passengers can scan the code using their mobile phones if they witness a violation. The QR code will take them to the relevant platform, where they can submit details of the incident.
The facility aims to provide commuters with a quick way to report violations without visiting a police station or office.
The NHMP said reports from the public could help officials identify violations more quickly and take steps to prevent unsafe practices on highways and motorways.
