Automated e-challan system launched on Hazara motorway

Hassan August 23, 2026 Pakistan

The e-challan enforcement system has become operational on the Hazara Motorway, enabling motorway police to recover outstanding traffic fines from motorists before they exit through designated interchanges.

The system was activated after authorities completed the installation of cameras at key points along the motorway. The cameras automatically identify vehicles linked to unpaid e-challans as they approach an interchange.

According to SP Maqsood Dogar, motorway police receive an alert when the system detects a vehicle with an outstanding traffic violation. Officers then check the details of the violation and stop the vehicle for verification.

Once the violation is confirmed, motorists are required to clear the outstanding fine before they are allowed to leave the motorway.

The system is designed to ensure that unpaid traffic penalties are not left unresolved and that motorists are held accountable for violations detected on the road.

Dogar said the new enforcement mechanism would improve the monitoring of traffic violations and help motorway police implement traffic regulations more effectively.

He added that the use of automated cameras would also make it easier for officers to identify vehicles with unpaid fines without relying solely on manual checks.

Authorities expect the system to encourage motorists to pay their traffic fines on time and follow traffic rules while travelling on the Hazara Motorway.

The introduction of the system is part of wider efforts to strengthen traffic monitoring and enforcement on major road networks.

With cameras now linked to the enforcement process, motorway police can identify outstanding violations more quickly and take action at designated exit points.
