A fresh spell of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds is expected to affect several parts of Pakistan from today as a western weather system moves into the country.
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather system is likely to remain active until September 6, bringing rain to parts of upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir and nearby upper river areas.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi and adjoining areas are likely to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Some areas may also experience heavy to torrential rainfall.
In KP, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Battagram, Peshawar, Nowshera, Abbottabad and Mansehra.
Upper Punjab is also likely to see rain and strong winds, particularly in Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Sialkot and Gujrat.
The department has forecast rain in Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and upper parts of Gilgit-Baltistan as well. The rainfall is expected to lower temperatures and provide relief from the prevailing heat.
Rain has already been reported in parts of the Potohar region, Islamabad, KP and Azad Kashmir. Several areas of the capital received showers along with strong winds.
The Meteorological Department warned that the rainfall expected between August 31 and September 6 could moderately increase water levels in rivers, streams and other waterways.
Meanwhile, most areas of Sindh and Balochistan are likely to remain hot and humid, although coastal areas may experience partly cloudy conditions.
Authorities have advised residents and tourists in mountainous regions to exercise caution, as continued rainfall could trigger landslides in vulnerable areas.
