PCB issues show-cause notice over Rizwan, Imam’s Test selection

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a show-cause notice to a member of the selection committee on Tuesday. It is seeking an explanation over the selection of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq in the Test squad.

Why has PCB issued the show-cause notice?

The PCB has raised objections over the selection of players for the tours of the West Indies and England.

It has sought a written explanation regarding the reasons, criteria and performance considerations behind the selections.

The selection committee member has been directed to submit a response within 24 hours of receiving the notice.

The PCB has instructed that the matter be dealt with on an urgent and high-priority basis. The show-cause notice was issued by Chief Operating Officer Sami Ahmed Syed.

Why did Misbah-ul-Haq resign from the PCB selection committee?

Earlier today, Misbah-ul-Haq resigned from the PCB selection committee, according to sources close to him.

He sent his resignation to the PCB by email. He resigned because he was not consulted about the players who were sent to England to replace the dropped players.

Pakistan is currently going through a disastrous test series with England. After losing the second test match, the PCB decided to call back seven players and sent some other players to England in their place.

Misbah-ul-Haq, who served on the PCB selection committee, was not consulted in this decision and decided to give resignation.

Sources from the PCB have also confirmed that they have received the resignation. Sources also claimed that Asad Shafiq will resign from the selection committee as well.

Shahid Afridi calls out PCB

Additionally, former captain Shahid Afridi has raised questions over the major changes made by the PCB to the squad and coaching staff ahead of the third Test against England.

Shahid Afridi has said that the logic and strategy behind the board’s recent decisions are beyond his understanding.

“Not sure what is the logic or reasoning behind this decision! Even the replacements make no sense – T20 players have been included for a Test match in England?” he said.

“What is this thinking and approach? Why has the coach been axed after 5 Test matches? This is the most shocking decision ever by a selection committee which includes so many experienced selectors,” he added further.
