Sarmad Khoosat has shared the exciting news that his film Lali has been selected for the 70th BFI London Film Festival on Instagram. The event is one of the UK’s biggest film festivals. It will take place from October 7 to 18.

He said he was happy to bring the film’s music, colours, humour and story to audiences around the world.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Khoosat wrote, “So… LALI is officially selected for the 70th BFI London Film Festival,” tagging London Film Festival and the British Film Institute.

“To be in this lineup, and to get to bring all the madness, music, colour, love and the many other crazy things of LALI to a global audience at the London Film Festival… well, that feels rather lovely,” he added.

“And to be there on Day One of the festival too — somehow, that just makes it all feel a little more special,” he said.

“And, as if that wasn’t enough — Olivia Colman in the same strand as us. I mean…,” Khoosat wrote further.

“London, see you soon. Lots of love and luck to my Lali team,” he concluded.

Where will Khoosat’s film Lali be screened?

Khoosat’s film Lali has been selected for the 70th BFI London Film Festival. The event is one of the UK’s biggest film festivals. It will take place from October 7 to 18.

The director also said that the film’s screening on the first day of the festival made the selection even more special.

When will Lali be screened?

According to the official festival programme, Lali will be shown at the Institute of Contemporary Arts on the opening day.

This year’s festival will feature 251 films, shorts, series and immersive projects. The works come from 88 countries. Lali will be shown under the festival’s “Laugh” section.

The film was written by Sarmad Khoosat and Sundus Hashmi. It had its world premiere at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in February.

Lali made history there as the first fully Pakistani-produced feature film to screen at the Berlinale. The film was produced by Khoosat Films and Dubai-based Enso Studios.

What is Lali about?

The film tells the story of Zeba, played by Mamya Shajaffar. She is called a “cursed bride” after three men who are interested in marrying her die in strange situations.

She is later forced into an arranged marriage with Sajawal. He has a difficult past and a birthmark on his face.

The film mixes dark comedy with supernatural elements. Its cast also includes Channan Hanif, Rasti Farooq from Joyland and Meher Bano from Churails.
