Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup Group A match against India in Dubai on Saturday.
Fatima was found to have violated Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers language, actions or gestures that could disparage a batter or provoke an aggressive reaction following their dismissal.
The sanction also includes one demerit point, her second disciplinary offence within a 24-month period. This takes her total demerit points during the period to two. Her previous demerit point was awarded during a T20I against Ireland in Dublin on August 6, 2025.
The incident occurred after Fatima dismissed India opener Shafali Verma, who had started aggressively while chasing Pakistan’s modest total. After taking the catch, Fatima gestured towards the pavilion.
Fatima admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, no formal hearing was required.
Level 1 breaches under the ICC Code of Conduct carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 per cent of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
Despite Pakistan’s heavy seven-wicket defeat to India after being bowled out for just 55, Fatima was one of the team’s standout performers with the ball, taking three wickets.
Pakistan will look to bounce back against Hong Kong, China, in their next Asia Cup match. A victory would secure the team’s place in the tournament’s semi-finals.
