Citizens in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can now keep their driving licences on their mobile phones under a new digital system introduced by the provincial police.
The new service allows motorists to get an electronic copy of their driving licence online and show it on their phones when required.
Users can enter their national identity card number on the Rabta app to get a digital driving licence. Officials say the system can generate the licence within minutes.
Traffic officials in Peshawar have also been directed to accept valid digital driving licences as legal documents.
Motorists who do not have their physical licence with them will not face a fine simply for failing to carry it, as long as they can show a valid digital licence on their mobile phone.
The new system aims to make traffic services easier for citizens and reduce the need to carry physical documents.
Officials can also verify licence details digitally, which could make roadside checks quicker and more transparent.
Peshawar Chief Traffic Officer Dr Mohammad Zahid said the digital licence marks an important step towards using technology to improve the traffic police system.
The service could also help motorists who forget or lose their physical driving licences.
The initiative forms part of wider efforts by the KP Police to digitise public services and make them easier for citizens to access.
