Only six dengue fever cases have been confirmed in Rawalpindi so far this year, with no deaths reported from the disease, according to the Rawalpindi Health Department. The department said that 3,753 people had been screened for dengue as of September 7. During surveillance activities, dengue larvae were detected at 19,900 locations, including 12,906 houses.
Around 1,400 teams are currently working in the field to identify and eliminate dengue breeding sites. Authorities have registered 1,973 cases for violations of dengue prevention and safety measures and imposed fines totalling Rs2.24 million.
According to the report, no new dengue cases were reported in Rawalpindi during August and September. Four cases were recorded in July in the areas of Dhok Hasso South, Kotha Kalan and Contrala. The highest number of dengue larvae was detected in Union Council Girja, Gulistan Colony, Rahimabad, Dhok Hasu, Morgah, Dhok Mangtal and Kaliyal.
Meanwhile, authorities have taken action against locations where dengue larvae have been detected to prevent the possible spread of the disease. According to officials, 1,973 cases have been registered so far for the presence of dengue larvae and violations of dengue-related safety measures. A total of 537 locations have been sealed, while 1,778 challans have also been issued.
Fines amounting to Rs2.124 million have been imposed on individuals and establishments found violating prescribed dengue prevention measures. The Health Department said 415 external and 985 internal teams are currently active in Rawalpindi to conduct dengue surveillance. The teams are inspecting potential breeding sites, houses and other locations across different areas of the city. During the ongoing surveillance campaign, more than 4.296 million houses have been inspected, of which 16,993 were found positive for dengue larvae.
