Pakistan batter Gull Feroza has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee on Tuesday for breaking the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup.
The incident took place during Pakistan’s Group A match against Hong Kong in Dubai on Monday.
Why was Gull Feroza fined?
Gull was found guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The rule deals with showing disagreement with an umpire’s decision during an international match.
One demerit point has also been added to Gull’s record. It was her second offence in the last 24 months. She now has two demerit points during this period.
What happened during the match?
The incident took place in the fifth over of Pakistan’s innings. Gull was given out leg before wicket.
She showed her disappointment after the decision. She also pointed towards her bat to indicate that she had edged the ball.
Gull later admitted that she had breached the code and accepted the penalty. As a result, there was no need for a formal hearing.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Rabab Ahsan and Rokeya Sultana. Third umpire Shivani Mishra and fourth umpire Shathira Jakir were also involved.
Gull’s previous demerit
This is not Gull’s first demerit point in recent months. She received her first point during Pakistan’s Women’s T20 World Cup match against Australia on June 23 this year.
The latest penalty was proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
Under the ICC rules, a Level 1 offence can result in an official warning or a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee. Players can also receive one or two demerit points.
