The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert ahead of the final spell of monsoon rains, forecasting rainfall across several districts of the province from September 12 to 17.
The authority has advised relevant departments and the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures in view of the expected weather conditions.
According to the PDMA forecast, rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang and Attock during the period, with authorities warning of possible urban and flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
Rain is also expected in Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Wazirabad, Hafizabad, Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib and Sargodha from September 14 to 17.
The forecast further covers Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and adjoining areas, where rainfall is also likely during the same period.
PDMA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa warned of possible landslides in Murree, Galyat and other hilly areas due to the expected rainfall. He also highlighted the risk of urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Faisalabad, along with rising water levels in seasonal streams and possible flash floods.
The PDMA has directed relevant authorities to closely monitor the weather situation and ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place to deal with any emergency.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall, exercise caution in low-lying areas and stay away from stormwater drains.
The expected rainfall marks the ninth and final spell of the monsoon season in Punjab and is likely to bring a noticeable change in weather conditions across the province in the coming days.
