WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that will allow users to watch Status videos at 2x double speed. The feature is designed to make it quicker and easier to view longer video updates without skipping them completely.
Users will not need to open any separate menu or change a setting before increasing the playback speed.
While watching a video on WhatsApp Status, users can press and hold the right side of the screen. The video will then start playing at 2x speed.
As soon as the user removes their finger from the screen, the video will return to its normal playback speed. This makes the feature easy to use when someone only wants to speed through some parts of a Status video.
Feature being rolled out on iOS
The double speed playback option has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta update for iOS. It is being introduced through WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.36.10.70
The feature may not immediately appear for every WhatsApp user. New WhatsApp functions are often introduced gradually, availability can differ between accounts and devices.
The new playback control could be particularly useful for people who regularly watch longer Status videos. Instead of waiting for the entire video to play at its original speed, users can temporarily increase the speed whenever they want.
