A gas explosion inside a Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) coal mine in Shahrag, Harnai district, Balochistan, has claimed the lives of four miners and left five others injured.
According to initial reports, gas suddenly accumulated inside the PMDC coal mine in Shahrag, triggering a powerful explosion. Several miners were trapped underground following the blast, prompting authorities to launch a rescue operation.
Following the incident, personnel from the Frontier Corps (FC) and the civil administration reached the site and began rescue and relief operations. FC personnel also helped secure the mine and surrounding areas.
Rescue teams recovered the bodies of four miners from inside the mine. The bodies were shifted to a hospital for identification and other necessary formalities.
Rescue workers also safely brought five injured miners out of the mine. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, where they are currently receiving care.
Authorities are collecting further information and investigating the exact cause of the accident. Initial findings suggest that the accumulation of gas inside the mine triggered the explosion.
Coal mine accidents caused by gas leaks, poor ventilation and other safety hazards have claimed the lives of miners in the past. Following the Shahrag incident, authorities are reviewing safety measures at the mine while rescue and relief operations continue.
